Project Description

BlueScope Steel is a global leader in manufacturing steel products and they have their main Australian production factory based in Port Kembla. The facility operates as one of nation’s largest manufacturing and supplier of flat steel in Australia and is home to one of the most advanced slitting lines in the world – the BlueScope Steel Slitting Line. The Slitting Line was designed to process 30 tonnes of pre-manufactured steel coils at any one time. The Line was built and tested in Spain before being disassembled and shipped to Port Kembla for reassembly.

BlueScope Steel engaged Fredon as the electrical contractor to install electrical equipment for their Slitting Line project. The works commenced in June 2016. Fredon completed the following works as part of the project:

  • Installation of 415VAC power supply feeds
  • Supply and installation of cable tray systems
  • Installation and termination of cabling
  • Supply and installation of ancillary electrical equipment
  • Electrical equipment earthing bonding and electrical equipment labeling

The project was completed a month ahead of schedule in December 2016 and was completed on-budget.

BlueScope Steel were so impressed by Fredon’s performance on the project, we have been engaged to perform post-commissioning services to maintain, upgrade and modify works as required.
