The new Northern Beaches Hospital opened last week after 3 years of construction.
The privately operated facility contains 488 beds across 5 levels, and will cater for about 2000 patients, staff and visitors on a typical day, including 70,000 visits to the emergency department each year. The $600 million hospital is operated by Healthscope and will serve both public and private patients with facilities such as-
- a 50 space emergency department
- a helipad
- 14 operating theatres and 6 surgical suites
- intensive and critical care units
- maternity and paediatrics wards
- inpatient mental health facilities
- 1400 car spaces
Manly Hospital closed last week, with all existing patients transferred to Northern Beaches Hospital, along with another 80 patients from Mona Vale Hospital. Mona Vale Hospital continues to operate, becoming a high-level rehabilitation and sub-acute public hospital.
