Client: Roberts Pizzarotti

Location: Concord, NSW

Stage 1 of the redevelopment of the Concord Hospital is part of the NSW Government’s 4-year commitment to improve the health infrastructure in the state.

Concord Hospital has been serving the communities in the inner west of Sydney for over 75 years. They have a strong association with the veteran community since its operations as a military hospital in 1941. It also operates as a teaching hospital to the University of Sydney.

The first stage of the renewal will involve the delivery of a rehabilitation and aged care centre, comprehensive cancer centre, and the first National Veteran’s centre dedicated to supporting veteran’s health and wellbeing.

Principal contractor, Robert Pizzarotti, awarded Fredon with the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the electrical, HV and communications works.

Project specifics include the following:

  • Coordinating with HV works
  • Essential and Non-essential Main Switchboards
  • Distribution Boards
  • Lighting Installation and Control Systems
  • Security Systems including Access Control, intruder and fixed Duress Alarm system
  • Intercommunication Systems, Medical Service Panels, Nurse Call System
  • Diesel Generators with fuel tank, pumping system and piping
  • Active Harmonic Filters
  • Metering – private and authority
  • Distributed Antenna System

The project is the first public hospital renewal in New South Wales that is being delivered on a five-day working week, rather than the standard six-day week. Roberts Pizzarotti proposed the five-day program in response to the astonishing statistics that people on construction sites are six times more likely to die from suicide than in workplace accidents. The five-day work week is expected to help construction workers balance their lives outside work, benefitting their health and well-being.

Stage 1 is scheduled to be completed by June 2021.
