The new Acute Services Building for the Prince of Wales Hospital is part of the NSW Government’s Randwick Campus Redevelopment. This is part of the redevelopment which aims to expand and upgrade the health facilities to provide increased capacity and modernised technologies to meet future growth.

The Acute Services building hosts a new emergency department, expanded intensive care unit, modernised inpatient units, specialty clinics, operating theatres, helipad, and teaching and research facilities.

The contractor engaged Fredon to provide the design, supply, and installation of the electrical works. The Scope of electrical works consisted of early enabling works, detailed design, documentation, and certification. EMF shielding, main switchboards, distribution boards, power factor correction and harmonic filtering. Consumer mains and submains, cable management, metering, general power distribution (inclusive of power for others), emergency backup generators, including fuel system, mobile generator connection point and UPS Systems. As well as General lighting, emergency exit lighting, helipad lighting, and external lighting, lighting control systems, body & cardiac protected areas, earthing and lighting protection system, CDR/ BDR and floor distribution rooms, structured voice/ data cabling, fibre/ copper backbone cabling, and seismic restraints.

The team delivered cutting-edge solutions that included a sophisticated high-voltage network. The project was completed in October 2023.

The Prince of Wales team won the Commercial Large Projects Award at the 2024 NECA NSW Awards.
