Royal Melbourne Hospital Redevelopment

Services: Design, Install

Client: Lendlease

Location: Parkville, VIC

22 new acute mental health beds have been delivered at the Royal Melbourne Hospital as part of the Victorian Government’s investment into the Mental Health Beds Expansion Program. This program will see a delivery of 260 acute mental health beds across Victoria. This new facility has increased capacity, reducing pressure on emergency departments and providing additional support for individuals experiencing mental illness.

Fredon were engaged to complete the Electrical services for the new mental health facility. This included supplying and installing distribution boards (DB’s) and Main Boards (MBD’s), all sub mains cabling and associated cable support systems. The supply and installation of the communication and Nurse Call systems. As well as the fitout of the Mental Health – Body and Cardiac protected wards.

One of the challenges of this project for the team was working in an operational hospital environment, which required careful coordination to avoid disruptions to hospital operations. Fredon implemented a meticulous scheduling and phasing plan which minimised disruptions and maintained patient care standards.

The project was successfully completed in February 2024.

The team received a Commendation for Commercial Large projects category at the NECA VIC 2024 awards.
